As many of you know, I am traveling 8,609 miles across the Pacific Ocean to the beautiful Queenstown, New Zealand in January of next year. I will be going through YWAM, a global movement of Christians dedicated to serving Jesus throughout the world. They unite in a common purpose to know God and to make Him known. In a few short months, I will be joining them to fulfill this purpose.
In fact, I am fulfilling it right now.
I do not need wait until I travel halfway across the world to experience God first-hand. I think God gets tired of us waiting on certain aspects of our lives to slow down, or even stop altogether. We get stuck waiting for the right time, the right circumstances, and even the right finances. The "right" conditions will never occur simply because they do not exist. Our lives are in full throttle on a course that is winding and quite rocky at times. Circumstances are ever-changing. But, lucky for us, we serve a God that never changes. God's unchanging purpose gives us eternal significance. God's unchangeable ways offer assurance of unwavering guidance. God's unchanging commitment guarantees everlasting security.
God tells us to wait on Him. Now, there is a difference between waiting on God and just waiting. Psalm 27:14 says, "Wait patiently on the Lord. Be brave and courageous and He shall strengthen your heart. Yes, wait patiently on the Lord." This verse expresses confidence and hope in the Lord's presence and sovereignty. These things never change. We are to put our hope in the perfect Jesus Christ who never changes, not our always imperfect circumstances.
I cannot wait to go to New Zealand. It's all i can think about sometimes. But God is taking full advantage of this time before i leave and using it to prepare me for what is to come. Often times God uses the seasons of waiting to refresh, renew, and teach us. We need to make good use of our waiting times and discover what God is teaching us during them. This requires obedience, trust, and daily surrender. Embrace this season. Support and accept this season willingly. Let God rewire you. Spend hours pressing into God. Keep your hunger for Him and your eyes set upon Him. God is doing something in your life right now for something even bigger later. He led you into this time because promotion is coming. Your waiting season is an invitation to come into a deeper intimacy with Him. God wants to ignite the little revelations you experience in your time of waiting and blow them up into life-changing disclosures of His power and goodness. He wants to move with you. He wants to run with you. He wants to completely overtake and consume your life. But the times of waiting on Him and Him alone are the times when He prepares you for the ride.
Now I can wait.
