We have a desire to know. Desire to know the plans, to know the future, to know the dreams, to know the later. I want to know the answers, the facts, the route, the plan, the idea. Could it be that this God-given craving to know is actually misdirected when we only venture to know the things that were intended to be mere byproducts that pale in comparison to knowing God’s heart? That we reach for something we deem accessible, leaving God in our peripherals instead of in all-consuming focus?
Jeremiah 29:11-13 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. (KEEP READING) In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.”
So often we get consumed with the PLANS that God has for us, instead of the GOD that has plans for us.
We need to give up our efforts to find every detail to the next step and instead shift our focus on the beautiful face of Jesus.
What happened to our desire to KNOW GOD?! Where has our thirst gone? Because surely there must be more to satisfy our deep cravings.
I want to know HIM. I want to be consumed by the very details of Him that so many miss. I want to be taken in and swept away in this mysterious love affair of depths unknown. I want to know the all-knowing One, not the plans that he knows.
Let's not forget that there is a discoverable heart behind His will.
I want the privilege of finding areas of God’s heart that I have never seen. I want to know God deeper than I have ever known Him. I want to search for the deep secrets of His heart.
[1 Corinthians 2:10 “But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God's deep secrets.”]
I want to know what my Maker feels when He looks at me. What is He feeling when I look at him? What are His thoughts? Does He ever look away? What is He doing right now? How is He moving? Where is He going! Why did He do that? What goes through His mind when he's causing the sun to rise in the morning? What makes His heart soar? What hurts Him the most? What is He creating right now and why is He doing it? What does He think about as He hears the angels sing unceasingly, holy holy holy?
These are the types of questions that drive us deeper and deeper into who HE is. He is not some "it" or "thing" that is distant and unrelatable. He is God WITH us. This is not third person, this is a dialogue. One that he invites us into.
I mean come on people, these are the things that should motivate us into discovery of His heart. The things that should riddle our minds every day.
What happened to the wonderers? To the curiosity that kept our minds active and open to receive? Who told us that our questions were too much or unanswerable? Why did we believe them?
We didn't just stop asking. We stopped receiving when we stopped asking.
We all have questions: it is in our nature to want to know. So why don't we ask? Are we afraid of being a nuisance? Are we fearful of journeying across uncharted territory? Are we scared of the responsibility that comes with revelation?
Why do we settle for surface with an infinite Lover?
Why don't we ask?
Is it because going deep entails a vulnerable heart? Is it because asking leaves us exposed? Because it urges us to give up control and depend on Him? Because it humbles us and causes us to admit we need something that we don't have?
What stopped us from asking? Why did we stop looking?
“If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me”
When we find His heart we learn the beautiful rhythm of His heartbeat. We learn the consistency of Him. We learn how truly alive he is. We learn that His heartbeat never fails and it does not waver. We learn the power behind His breath. We learn what generates the life and redemption that He brings. We get to see the blood that flows from His heart into every area of our lives. We learn the source of the outpouring of a great love that is bigger than ourselves.
A hungry heart hears best. Curiosity should never be silenced. It is the very thing that responds to God's beckoning… His beckoning heart that is always open to reveal. The question is not if He is willing to reveal but if we are willing to receive. And asking entails receiving. What will you ask for?
